Valencia, 1960. In 1987 he won first prize at the 1988rd Valencia Provincial Council Jazz Competition. From then on he began to collaborate with his trio in various Jazz Festivals in Spain, including the XNUMXth Madrid Jazz Festival in XNUMX.
He has been a permanent collaborator of the guitar group Ximo Tebar, with whom he has toured and given concerts in Spain, Europe, the USSR and Central America, and they have shared numerous awards together.
He has toured with internationally renowned performers such as Johnny Griffin, Sony Fortune, Junior Cook, Wallace Roney, Jimmy Owens, Billy Brooks, Jorge Pardo, María de Medeiros…etc.
In 1990 he released his first album as a leader, “Habitación Blanca,” which was described by critics as a key album in the history of Spanish jazz.
From 1992 to 1996 he collaborated with the pop music group "Presuntos Implicados" in their live line-up, touring Spain, Germany, England, Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Portugal. Also worthy of note is his collaboration at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in 1994 and at the prestigious Ronnie Scott Club in London.
From 2000 to 2002, he performed as a musician and actor in the play “El Pianista del Océano”, in a Valencian version with the Valencian actor Pep Ricart, and in a Spanish version with the Basque actor Kike Díaz de Rada, both productions by the companies Albena Produccións and Tanttaka Teatroa. In March 2001, he was nominated for the best musical composition for theatre at the Performing Arts Awards.
In 2001 and 2002 he received the “Best Jazz Pianist Award” from the Valencian Community at the 2001st Promusics Awards XNUMX and was nominated with his group “Ricardo Belda Trío” for the best jazz group.
In 2004 he released his second album as a leader, “My Ideal”, which was hailed by critics as one of the best jazz albums in Spain in the last ten years. He was also nominated again for the best musical composition for theatre at the Performing Arts Awards for the soundtrack of the play “La Sonrisa de Lorca” by the company Bambalina Titelles. During this period he also made arrangements and recorded Soledad Giménez’s first solo album, with which he toured throughout Spain.
In January 2006 he performed a concert with guitarist Ximo Tebar and singer Ester Andujar at the “Thirty-Third IAJE International Conference, New York”, and another concert at the legendary jazz club “Birland”. In the same year and with the same formation he toured Argentina, Romania, Poland, Jordan, Morocco and Lebanon.
In June 2007 he released his latest album, “El Principio”, which he presented at the Palau de la Música in Valencia.
He is currently working on different projects and directs the “En Clau de Jazz Big Band” with which he tours, with collaborations from singers such as Sole Giménez, Arantxa Domínguez, Ester Andujar and Neus Ferri.
He has combined all this with teaching, giving piano and harmony classes for more than 25 years at the CIM in Benimaclet and Taller 3 in Castellón, among others, and has participated as a teacher in international jazz seminars, master classes and conferences around the world.
