Trumpeter and teacher

Born in 1947 in Solothurn (Switzerland), he graduated from the Zurich Conservatory of Music with Henri Adelbrecht and furthered his studies with Pierre Thibaud (Paris). He subsequently played principal trumpet in several symphony orchestras, including the Tonhalle from Zurich and the Radio Symphony Orchestra from Berlin. As a soloist, he performs on four continents.

A pioneer in the rediscovery of 19th-century repertoire, he made, among others, world-premiere recordings of concertos by Vassili Brandt and Oskar Böhme.

Professor at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold (Germany) for 28 years, he was a guest professor at the Toho Gakuen School of Music (Tokyo), the Australian National University (Canberra) and the Simon Bolivar Foundation (Caracas).

His class in Germany has produced graduates of prestigious international competitions such as the ARD in Munich, the Maurice André in Paris, the Timofei Dokshitzer in Vilnius, the Portia, Lieksa, Prague Spring, Ellsworth-Smith and the P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, as well as numerous positions in orchestras such as the National Academy of Santa Cecilia and the Opera House of Rome, the Gewandhaus from Leipzig, the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the RAI in Turin, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Gürzenich in Cologne, the Australian Opera in Sydney, the Chinese National Ballet Symphony in Beijing, the radio symphony orchestras of Hamburg (NDR), Cologne (WDR), Berlin (DSO), Stuttgart (SWR) and Frankfurt (HR), the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Berliner Philharmoniker.
