La High Performance Music School (ESMAR) has scheduled six concerts by the ESMAR Orchestra and Symphonic Band to be held in the Luis Monzonís Auditorium of the educational centre in the 2024-25 academic year. These meetings of its formations will be directed and supervised by directors such as Pascual Cabanes, Sergio Alapont, José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, Juan Miguel Romero and Pablo Marqués and will feature various singers and soloists. Admission is free and open to the public until full capacity is reached.
The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Cabanes, will offer the Symphony No. 2 by Gustav Mahler with the Orfeó Valencià and the soprano Laura Cruz and the mezzo-soprano Lorena Valero in December; Requiem K.626 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with the Sant Yago Choir under the direction of Alapont and Tanya Durán-Gil (soprano), Estíbaliz Ruiz (mezzo-soprano), Mario Corberán (tenor) and Lluís Martínez-Agudo (bass-baritone) in April; and a lyrical gala of opera and zarzuela, conducted by ESMAR students under the guidance of Pérez-Sierra, with various guest soloists, in May. The ESMAR String Orchestra will also offer a concert with works by Jesús Manuel Marvizón, Raúl Martín Niñerola, José Alamá and Juan Manuel Cutiño in October.
The Symphonic Band, conducted by Romero and ESMAR students, will provide The Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky at the Christmas concert with ESMAR soloists; Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, under the baton of Cabanes, with the Sant Yago Choir and Saray García (soprano), Rafael Quirant (countertenor) and Fernando Piqueras (baritone) in February; and Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgski, a work that Marqués will conduct, with a pianist from ESMAR in March.
The ESMAR Orchestra and Symphonic Band are artistic projects in which musicians work as if they were in a professional formation, which represents a great experience that recreates and provides the dynamics and learning of this environment, as well as an excellent opportunity for students who stand out for their interpretive career because they have the opportunity to act as soloists with a high-level group and be directed by world-class teachers.
These meetings also serve as a setting for practices within the framework of Master of Direction, a very enriching educational activity for students. This specialty has the ESMAR Symphonic Orchestra and Band and the brass ensemble as groups in which musicians can perform.
